How To Size Your Nails

It is recommended that you purchase a sizing kit before ordering your custom set to ensure a snug and comfortable fit, however, we understand that this can be a lengthy process (particularly if you are ordering from overseas). Here are some alternative methods for sizing your nails.

Tape & Ruler Method

✅ What You’ll Need:

  • Clear tape (or masking tape)

  • A vivid

  • A ruler (preferably in millimetres)

  • Scissors (optional, for neater tape pieces)

  • Paper & pen to record your sizes

✨ Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Cut a Piece of Tape

  • Cut a small strip of clear tape, about 2–3cm long.

  • Stick it horizontally across the widest part of your nail (usually just above the cuticle area).

2. Mark the Width

  • Use a pen or marker to mark where each side of your nail ends on the tape.

  • Make sure to mark right where your nail ends, not the skin.

3. Remove the Tape

  • Gently peel the tape off your nail and place it flat on a piece of paper.

4. Measure the Distance

  • Use a ruler to measure in millimetres the distance between the two marks.

  • This number is your nail width.

5. Record the Measurement

  • Write it down and label it with the corresponding finger (e.g., “Left Thumb – 17mm”).

6. Repeat for All 10 Nails

  • Do the same for each finger — nail sizes can vary between hands, so measure each one!

Measuring Tape Method

✅ What You’ll Need:

  • A flexible measuring tape (ideally in millimetres) — like a sewing tape

  • A pen and paper to record your sizes

✨ Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Place Measuring Tape Across Your Nail

  • Hold the flexible tape across the widest part of your natural nail — usually just above the cuticle area.

  • Curve the tape gently from one sidewall of the nail to the other (don’t stretch or flatten it over the top).

2. Read the Measurement

  • Look at the number on the measuring tape where it meets the other side of your nail.

  • This is your nail width in millimetres.

3. Write It Down

  • Record the measurement and label it with the correct finger (e.g., “Right Thumb – 17mm”).

4. Repeat for Each Nail

  • Measure all 10 fingers — each one can be a slightly different width!

Dollar Method (NZ & Aus Only)

✅ What You’ll Need:

  • A New Zealand $1 or $2 coin

  • Good lighting

  • Your phone camera

  • A flat surface (like a table)

  • Optional: a friend to take the photo for you

✨ Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Place Your Hand Flat

  • Lay your hand palm-down on a flat surface.

  • Spread your fingers comfortably (not stretched wide or squished together).

2. Position the NZ Dollar for Scale

  • Place the coin next to or just above your fingers — make sure it’s fully visible in the photo.

  • This will act as a reference for scale, so we can measure your nails accurately from the photo.

3. Take a Clear Photo

  • Make sure the entire hand and the coin are visible and in focus. You may need to do your thumbs separately.

  • Take the photo from directly above (not on an angle).

  • Avoid harsh shadows or blurry shots — good lighting is key!

4. Double Check the Image

  • Confirm that:

    • All 10 nails are clearly visible

    • The coin is not cut off

    • The image is sharp and well-lit

5. Send Us Your Photos

  • Email us your photos at skincurenails@gmail.com with your custom order enquiry or completed custom enquiry form, or send us a dm on our socials.

  • We’ll use the known size of the coin to scale and size each of your nails digitally.
